Community Call #4

Community Call #4

Our most recent Sovereign Village community call carried forward the momentum of August's gathering, with even more members stepping forward to contribute their skills, energy, and ideas. Each call feels like another piece of the foundation being laid, both practically and in spirit, for the movement we’re building together.

Community Coordination Emerging

A key theme that surfaced was the need for community coordination. Belinda and Sylvia both offered to take on this role, drawing on decades of experience in community work, with offers to collaborate and build a supportive framework. Joanna also expressed interest in contributing to coordination efforts, showing how naturally responsibility is beginning to spread through the group.

Local Roots and Connections

Brighton and Sussex emerged as recurring points of interest, with mentions of Stanmer Organics and the Brighton Earthship as possible gathering spaces. Belinda shared her local ties, and Sara highlighted her role in Brighton & Hove Community Land Trust, offering expertise in ensuring land is held securely in trust for the future.

At the same time, members from across the UK — from Cornwall to Scotland to the Midlands — reminded us that this is a national movement, with local seeds already being planted in gardens, farms, and community projects far beyond Sussex.

Practical Questions and Aspirations

The call was alive with questions about land access, family visits, and housing. Members asked how often families with children could come to the land, whether housing would be part of the first East Sussex site, and if existing farms could adopt the model while retaining ownership. These questions reflect the practical next steps we’ll need to clarify as Sovereign Village takes shape.

We also saw members offering to host or initiate local projects — Joseph in London suggested transforming his garden into a showcase for food growing, while Gerry outlined a vision for a community hub in Herefordshire/Gloucestershire integrating land, consciousness work, and even a new community currency.

Offers of Skills and Support

As in every call, people generously offered their time and talents:

  • Foraging, food growing, and workshops.
  • Project management and outreach.
  • Hosting events and education sessions.
  • Practical farm support — both physical help and financial contributions.

The sense of shared responsibility and excitement continues to deepen, with many adding their contact details to stay connected and build working groups between calls.

Next Steps

  • Community Coordination: Belinda and Sylvia are connecting, with others invited to support.
  • Local Meetups: Exploring venues like Brighton Earthship and Stanmer Organics.
  • Membership & Visits: New members continue to join; farm visits remain open with growing interest around seasonal gatherings.
  • Subgroups: Work-streams are emerging around land, governance, education, health, and culture, as discussed in earlier calls.

Closing

The call closed with gratitude, warmth, and a flood of emails from those keen to stay involved. From questions about investment to the excitement around the upcoming Equinox gathering, it’s clear that momentum is building on every front.

Each of these calls is more than a meeting — it’s a living example of the village in practice: voices joining, responsibilities shared, and a collective vision growing clearer each week.
