Every year on the farm, I've noticed that intense honesty arises in early December. The cold bites, the days shorten, and a year’s worth of graft catches up. We produce and ship year-round, which asks a lot of the team. As we close the warmer seasons, we’re taken a clear look at how we work, and what needs to change for 2026.
Over the past 18 months we’ve grown the team fast. Some people joined without the kind of direct founder onboarding we’d usually do. And a “job-only” mindset has started to creep in in places with an expectation of corporate perks without carrying the shared load. That’s simply not aligned with this member-owned mission.
So we’ve drawn a clear line. We’re only keeping the people who are both deeply aligned and highly competent. We’ve had some hard conversations, and there are more to come. The shift already feels lighter and more focused. More care, more ownership and more mission-first energy.
Why this matters: we’re not building “a nice little farm.” We’re building a member-owned food system that can change thousands of families’ lives. That’s meaningful, but it’s also hard. We need people who show up, shoulder the load, and care for the land and each other. Sovereignty asks for skill, discipline, heart, and ultimately - responsibility.
It’s also bigger than farming alone. Farming is just one of twelve teams in our Governance Charter. Farming and food sits at the centre, but every other team matters too: membership, distribution, land & build, finance, governance, systems, and more. Different skills keep the whole mission alive, and we value all of them.
What you can expect from this reset is simple: a steadier cadence, higher standards, clearer ownership. Year-round production with better planning and care. Fewer promises, better delivery.
To support this next step, we’re hiring for three key roles:
- Head of Membership Growth
- Head of Livestock
- Head of Food & Distribution
If this is you, or someone you know, reply with a short note and a CV/LinkedIn. Referrals from within the community are the strongest way we find people who truly fit what we’re building. We’ll be sharing full role descriptions in the coming week.
Thank you for the patience, the feedback, and the belief. The work is hard, and it’s worth it. We’re stepping into 2026 with a smaller, sharper, fully aligned team - so your farm stays sovereign and strong.
